Dimapur, May 28 (MExN): Saint John’s Higher Secondary School, Diphupar-B, conducted an awareness programme on the theme “Adolescence for a Safer Tomorrow” on May 27, aimed at equipping students with knowledge and life skills to navigate the challenges of adolescence.
The programme featured sessions by officials from the Health Department on issues related to adolescent health, mental well-being, hygiene, nutrition, and disease prevention.
Community Health Officer Sibenya Rengma spoke on physical and emotional changes during adolescence, nutrition, mental health, substance abuse prevention, and the importance of hygiene. She encouraged students to make informed decisions and seek guidance from trusted adults and health professionals.
National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme Supervisor Wobeni Ezung also delivered a lecture on prevention of dengue and malaria.
As part of the programme, the school organised a poster-making competition for students from Classes 7 to 11 on themes including peer pressure, digital safety, healthy relationships, and self-esteem.
Students also presented short skits depicting issues such as bullying, stress management, and responsible use of social media, which generated discussion among participants.
Principal Johny Abraham said adolescence was “a crucial phase of growth” and stated that the initiative aimed to help students feel “informed, confident, and supported.” He also acknowledged the Health Department for partnering with the school for the programme.
The event concluded with students taking a pledge to make healthy choices and support one another. Winners of the poster-making competition were also felicitated.
The programme was coordinated by the school’s Health & Wellness Committee with participation from students and teachers.
