Training and field demonstration on scientific fish farming held

Kohima, February 4 (MExN): The Department of Fisheries & Aquatic Resources in collaboration with ICAR-Directorate of Cold Water Fisheries Research (ICAR-DCFR), Bhimtal, Uttarakhand under the project ‘Socio economic development through scientific fish farming under Tribal Sub Plan Scheme (TSP)’ conducted training and field demonstration on various topics on January 29 and 30.
 
A DIPR report stated that the Deputy Director and Nodal Officer of the Program, Neitho-o Kuotsu highlighted the importance of the project and the significance of scientific culture of fish farming practices. He stated that sustainable, productive fisheries and aquaculture improve food and nutrition security, increase income and improve livelihoods, promote economic growth and protect our environment and natural resources. 

Dr RS Haldar, Principal Scientist & Nodal Officer for NEH activity, ICAR-DCFR, stressed on the importance of scientific management of fish farming activities. He urged the farmers and entrepreneurs of the State to take up scientific system of fish culture to uplift our economy and reduce our dependency on low quality fishes imported from other States.  

Dr Vimezo Kire, District Fishery Officer, Kohima speaking on common carp breeding mentioned the importance of provision of good quality fish seed and feed inorder to obtain healthy brooders for a successful breeding operation. 

Sub Divisional Fishery Officer, Khriezhato Nakhro speaking on paddy cum fish culture highlighted on the significance of PFC in improving the socio economic condition of the rural farmers in the State.

Rokuo Kire, a fish farming enthusiast, thanked the Director and Officers of Department of Fisheries & AR and ICAR-DCFR, Bhimtal for organizing such training programme and assured on behalf of the beneficiaries that they will endeavor for the success of the project which he hope will also encourage others to take up such venture.
