Dimapur, September 13 (MExN): Inaugural function of one-week ‘training programme on audit, inspection and book-keeping of cooperative societies’ under the aegis of Cooperation Department was held at Cooperative Training Center, Medziphema on September 12.
Delivering the keynote address, T. Imkonglemla Longkumer, Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Nagaland emphasized that education is an important tool for the growth and development of any society and that cooperative education is an integral force for the growth of cooperative movement. In an age where the existence and survival of cooperative societies are faced with the onslaught of globalized and liberalized market scenario, the need to propagate cooperative education cannot be overemphasized. Accordingly, a training programme for educating and equipping these departmental junior field staffs has been organized to disseminate proper accounting procedure to the grass-root society members/promoters. The need of imparting training to these junior field staffs has gained much more importance due to the recent direction of the State Cabinet for cancellation of defunct and non-functioning cooperative societies.
Speaking on the occasion as the chief guest, Chumremo Odyuo, Jt. Secretary of Cooperation Department stressed that cooperative movement is a socio-economic movement and that both central and state government have realized that cooperatives are a tool for economic development. Reminding that RCS and officers should be a friend and philosophers to the farmers, the mission statement of cooperative department: ‘strengthening the people for economic self-reliance’ will be possible only through the joint effort of everyone. He also emphasized that our fore-fathers were known for hard-work and honesty but lately we have become very lazy and corrupt. He reminded every officer and staffs to be diligent in their work and be available in their place of posting.
