Dimapur, February 25 (MExN): A four-day training on 'WebGIS Portal and Mobile Application for Monitoring and Collection of Field Data' under Nagaland Forest Management Project was organized from February 22 to 25 at Forest Office complex in Dimapur under the supervision of DFO Dimapur and Longleng Biezo Suokhrie.

The WebGIS portal and mobile application, designed at par with global standards are developed under the supervision of the Vedpal Singh IFS - Project Director (M&E and IM). This training programme is conceived by Samom Khelen Singh (DPD- M&E &GIS) at PMU level. The WebGIS portal and mobile application meet all the standards of remote sensing tool-based monitoring and evaluation of the works performed under the NFMP project for forest conservation and economical development of the community, DFO Dimapur informed in a report on Thursday.

The objective of the training was to improve the understanding of ground-level staff regarding the collection of data with help of a mobile app and to sensitize the key stakeholders on monitoring, evaluation through WebGIS Portal.

Dimapur hosted three forest divisions - Dimapur, Longleng, and Peren for the training. On the closing day, Beizo Suokhrie presented his views on the use of GIS and Remote Sensing for monitoring purposes with the help of these applications. He motivated and encouraged all the participants to understand and use these applications.

A panel of experts including Anurag Verma, GIS Expert PMC NFMP, Limasanen Longkumer, GIS Expert PMU NFMP, Subongchiten Jamir and Anamoa Imsong GIS team members PMU NFMP presented various modules of these applications and their uses during the training. A field visit to Thekrejuma Village was also organized on February 24 in this regard for the monitoring of different works with the help of a mobile app. The experts broadly discussed the different modules of the WebGIS portal for evaluation and monitoring purposes and mobile application for easy and accurate collection of primary data.

Nagaland Forest Management Project assisted by Japan International Corporation Agency (JICA) headed by the Chief Project Director cum CEO Dharmendra Prakash IFS (PCCF and HoFF) is a forestry intervention and biodiversity conservation project, also aimed at livelihood improvement and community development of the people dependent on the forest.
