Medziphema, November 21 (MExN): State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI) organised two-day training programme on ‘low cost management of green house technology’ for ATMA functionaries at SAMETI, Medziphema on November 19 and 20.
The training was aimed at equipping the extension agents with technical knowledge about the general basic construction and management practices of green house.
Resource persons for the training were Arvind Singh, Technical Consultant and Dr. Moasosang, Assistant Horticulture Specialist, Central Institute of Horticulture (CIH), Medziphema. The participatory lectures covered topics on General green house construction, Drip and fertilizer system, Overview on green greenhouse and its basic management practices, low cost protected cultivation of focus Horticultural crops. A practical session on rose canopy management and drip irrigation was conducted.
A field trip to Central Institute of Horticulture, Medziphema was undertaken where participants visited Anthurium, Gerbera, Rose and Sweet orange green houses. Arvind Singh, Technical Consultant CIH Medziphema explained the working of the institute and gave detailed technical inputs about each green house during the trip.
The valedictory function was chaired by Tiajungla Longchar, DPD SAMETI, while feedback on the training was given by Nengkhonen Hangsing, ATM, Dimapur and Sentsuthung Yanthung, ATM Kiphire. In her valedictory address, Dr. Watimongla Jamir, Vice Principal, IETC Medziphema encouraged all the participants to start practising the technology they have learned during the training at home and leading by example. She put a strong message across about “learning by doing” and being practically involved while imparting new technology to the farmers.
The training concluded with distribution of certificates to the participants by Dr. Watimongla Jamir, Vice Principal, IETC Medziphema while vote of thanks was pronounced by Vikaho Chophi, DPD SAMETI.
