Medziphema, December 15 (MExN): The All India Co-ordinated Research Project on Honey bees and Pollinators (AICRP-HB&P, ICAR), School of Agricultural Sciences and Rural Development (SASRD), Nagaland University, Medziphema conducted two trainings at Punglwa village and Medziphema village on December 11 and 14 respectively.

Dr Avinash Chauhan, Assistant Scientist Incharge, AICRP (HB&P) – ICAR, SASRD, NU, Medziphema in a press release stated that altogether, 50 trainees participated in the two trainings which focused on “Scientific stingless bee keeping for farmers of Nagaland under NEH Region” where different resource persons lectured on scientific stingless bee rearing during the one-day trainings in both villages.

The resource persons highlighted the importance of Stingless Bee, its vast scope and benefits of rearing stingless bees scientifically. They also dwelt on initial development of scientific box and its immense potential towards uplifting the economy of farmers by selling different by-products through scientific beekeeping. They encouraged farmers to take up scientific beekeeping as a hobby and prosper economically. 

They also shared on the methodologies and techniques of scientific beekeeping for stingless bees. They further demonstrated the practical use of scientific stingless bee boxes and its added advantage over traditional beekeeping.

The trainings were accompanied by free distribution of scientific stingless bee boxes, bee veil and other tools. 

In both the trainings, the respective village council chairman acknowledged the efforts of AICRP (HB&P), ICAR, SASRD, NU, and requested for follow-up practical trainings in the future which will help farmers considerably.
