TUENSANG, FEBRUARY 7 (MExN): The District Water and Sanitation Mission (DWSM) of Tuensang held a meeting to discuss implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission on February 5. 

The meeting was chaired by Tuensang DC and Chairman, DWSM, Kumar Ramnikant, IAS. 

The objective of JJM is to enable all the rural households to have access to safe and adequate drinking water within the premises to the extent possible. For the verification of the implementation, a third party is empanelled and for Tuensang district Tolen Thangjam has been nominated for the purpose. JJM is envisioned to provide safe and adequate drinking water through individual household tap connections by 2024 to all households in rural India.

Executive Engineer, PHED, Er Kedolhuto highlighted the records of the department for 2019-20. It was informed that under the JJM, three projects are completed and four are awaiting verification. For 2020-21 the project proposal is for 50 inhabitants in the district out of which 10 inhabitant villages will be implemented under the RD department and the rest will be under PHED. He also highlighted on the compulsory implementation of water connection to the PHCs/CHCs, schools and anganwadi centers in the village under the scheme.

The importance of inclusion of the Medical Department in the committee to check the quality of drinking water was also stressed on. He also highlighted that under the JJM, there will be construction of new water lines on top of the already existing water connections to meet the demands.

The Tuensang DC meanwhile urged the members to give cooperation so that the JJM scheme will be successfully implemented in the district.
