With pleadings for repair of roads failing to move the authorities into action, the Chang Students’ Union Tuensang Town (CSUTT) finally took the job into their own hands on Saturday.

The youngsters picked up shovels and toiled day-long to repair the gaping hole at Bazar Police Point in Tuensang town which stood as a grave danger for the vehicles and pedestrians on the road.

According to an official of CSUTT, the union submitted a complaint letter to the Urban Development Officer on July 26 this year, highlighting the ‘woeful’ state of roads within the town. Subsequently, the Office of the Urban Development Tuensang forwarded the complaint letter to the Director of the Urban Development, Government of Nagaland for provision of funds towards maintenance and repair of roads of Tuensang on August 4, 2021. However, no repair work has been carried out on the road.

Fed up of neglect and inaction from the authorities, the union took matters into their hands and decided to take up the challenge themselves and bring about a change.

Stating that there are many potholes and stretches of damaged roads within the town, union President Thungti Khumba said that the CSUTT has, in the past and present, repaired potholes on their own.  “We have even put-up complaint letters to the concerned department but there have been no effective changes so far. So, our special request to the concerned department is to kindly look into the matter as soon as possible,” he added.
