Tzürangkong: Schools, EBRC to remain closed

Mokokchung, October 31 (MExN): In support of the ongoing agitation of the Tzürangkong Students’ Conference (TKM) demanding adequate number of teachers to be deployed to all the government schools in Tzürangkong, the Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) officials paid a visit and met the Tzürangkong students on October 31.

During the visit, AKM reaffirmed that TKM will continue with the agitation until their demands are fulfilled by the government. All the schools and the EBRC in Tzürangkong will remain closed unless the TKM demands are met, AKM informed in a press release.

Extending support to TKM and stating that their grievances are real, AKM urged that the concerned department must address the issue raised by TKM immediately.

The press release received here stated that AKM was astounded to see that ‘villages in Tzürangkong were hiring private teachers to teach the students in the government schools because of shortage of subject teachers.’

“There are some schools where the number of teachers are fewer than the number of classrooms whereby it is impossible to conduct regular classes at the same period as one teacher cannot teach in two classrooms at one go,” AKM noted.

Therefore, it reiterated that at least the basic requirement of adequate number of teachers should be deployed immediately in the interest of the students.

AKM also regretted that the department concerned was yet to communicate with the aggrieved party to listen to their grievances, ‘let alone fulfill their demands, and wondered what was wrong with the government.’
