Union Minister Darshana Jardosh visits Nagaland

Dimapur, August 28 (MExN): The Union Minister of State for Railways and Textiles, Darshana Jardosh is on a three-day visit to Nagaland from August 27 to 29. 

The Minister paid a courtesy call on the Governor of Nagaland La Ganesan at Raj Bhavan, Kohima on August 27. In an update on the social media platform ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), Jardosh said, she discussed with the Governor on the development of railway and textile and many other important topics related to the state.

Jardosh also chaired review meetings with officials of Central Railway, Northeast Frontier Railway and Textiles Ministry. The Union Minister reviewed progress of various ongoing Rail Projects in the State of Nagaland and discussed ways to ensure their timely completion.

Chairing a review meeting with the officials of Textiles Ministry in Kohima, she discussed about progress and beneficiary feedback of various Central Government schemes and suggested wider propagation of schemes for betterment of handicrafts, handloom and silk in Nagaland. 

“Art and Handicrafts are intricately woven into the culture of Nagaland. The state is a home to around 17 tribes who have long perfected the art of creating magnificent items from very little resources,” she later posted on ‘X.’

On Monday, the Union Minister inaugurated the Nagaland Women Vocational Training Institute Emporium in Kohima, supported by Ministry of Textiles. “True to its nickname, Nagaland is home to several spectacular Handicrafts…From Naga Jewellery to Woodcarvings and Bamboo & Cane Products to Tribal craft, the Emporium has it all,” she posted on an update. “Another speciality of this Emporium is that all the items showcased here are handcrafted by the Women of Nagaland, trained by the Vocational Training Institute,” she added.

Further she chaired a meeting with state BJP officials in Kohima, Nagaland; visited Kisama Heritage Village near Kohima and the Kohima Cathedral Church; and also called on the Chief Minister of Nagaland, Neiphiu Rio.
