Union Minister reviews security in Manipur

Visiting Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, G Kishan Reddy on Tuesday reviewed security of the state along with Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh in Imphal on Tuesday.

 

Reddy and Biren co-chaired the security review meeting held at the chief minister’s secretariat which was attended by state chief security, the DGP, concerned officials of the state Home department and officers of the Unified Command. It can be mentioned here that the Army, the Central paramilitary forces (CRPF, the Assam Rifles, BSF etc) involved in the counter insurgency operation in Manipur comprised the United Command.

 

Reddy arrived in Imphal on Monday on his two-day visit to Manipur. His visit in the state was coincided with the Centre’s recent announcement of its endeavours to conclude the Naga peace talks at the earliest. Reddy left Imphal in the afternoon after the review meeting.

 

It is specifically not known about the immediate reasons for the security review meeting of Tuesday, but speculations are doing the round that the meeting may not be a routine one. Speculations say that the security review meeting could be connected with the Naga peace talks which are said to be on the verge of conclusion.
