Yangseo Sangtam, MLA inaugurating the unit and formally launching the pig feed in Kiphire on November 12.

Kihpire, November 12 (MExN): Feed making unit implemented by KVK, Kiphire under Chief Ministers Corpus Fund of Aspirational District Program in Kiphire was inaugurated by Yangseo Sangtam, MLA and Chairman, DPDB Kiphire in the presence of Wati Aier, Deputy Commissioner, Kiphire on November 12.
Briefing about the project, a press release said, Dr N Khumdemo Ezung, Senior Scientist and Head, KVK Kiphire informed that the project was initiated as maize is the main crop grown by the farmers of the district. Maize is marketed outside the district which gets converted into feeds and is then bought by the farmers with more than double the price.
Therefore, to address this situation, the establishment of the unit was necessitated so that the feed is produced within the district, thereby ensuring the availability of quality feed and at cheaper price. He informed that the unit will subsidise the rate of the feeds which will be made available to the farmers for a period of five years.
He informed that the unit has a capacity of 500 kgs/hours which will be sufficient to meet the requirement of the district depending on availability of maize grain.
Inaugurating the unit, Yangseo Sangtam, MLA appreciated the effort of the KVK and district administration and dedicated the unit to the people of the district. He appealed to the KVK officials to put more effort to train the operators and continuously monitor the performance of the unit so that it can be further replicated.
During the program, the MLA formally launched the pig feed by the brand “Yingbithongrü Livestock Feed” which will be the marketing brand. After the program a visit to Integrated Farming System model farm which was developed by KVK Kiphire was conducted where the MLA visited the pig breeding unit established by KVK Kiphire under CM Corpus fund of the aspirational district program.
Chumben Murry, EAC informed that the purpose for establishing the unit is to meet the shortage of piglets and at the same time ensuring availability of quality piglets and at subsidised rate. He informed that both the unit shall be under the supervision of the KVK for a period of five years so as to assess the performance of the units.
