Even as the "Nagas await the historic day when the final agreement will be signed," and the situation is even fueled more by the Government of India’s effort to conclude by October, 2019, the United Naga Council (UNC) has submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister, Narendra Modi on Friday saying that the “political settlement” sans the recognition of “Naga national flag and Naga constitution” will amount to negating the “true spirit of the historic Framework Agreement” that was signed between the Government of India and the NSCN-IM on August 3, 2015.

The representation of the UNC to the Prime Minister was entitled as ‘finalization of the historic Indo-Naga Framework Agreement.’

According to the UNC memorandum, the recognition of the “Naga national flag and the Naga constitution” will finally bring about an honorable and acceptable political settlement between the Government of India and the Nagas.

“Short of this recognition will amount to negating the true spirit of the historic Framework Agreement” that was signed between the Government of India and the NSCN-IM on August 3, 2015, reiterated the UNC.

The memorandum then said that the Naga people have been “prayerfully waiting for the last 22 years to finalise the Naga peace process that will be acceptable and honorable to both the parties, and based on the unique history and situation of the Nagas”.

The UNC representation to the Prime Minister then said, ”Taking this into consideration, your kind and urgent attention to the gravity of the situation in finalizing the Naga peace process may kindly be deemed a top priority of your government.”
