Urgently address plight of daily wage workers, says JD (U) to state govt

Dimapur, March 27 (MExN): The Janata Dal (U) Nagaland on Friday raised concern on the plight of daily wage-workers “who are the most affected as a result of the state-wide lockdown” and appealed the state government to come out with urgent necessary measures to address the issue.

A press release from the JD (U) Nagaland Publicity Wing also pointed out the “acute shortage of basic gears such as hand sanitizers and medical masks.” The JDU Nagaland, while sincerely appreciating the health workers of Nagaland who are working strenuously against the challenges of COVID-19, said that “the Nagaland Government, as a whole, appears to be one of the most unprepared states in the country battling this pandemic Coronavirus.”

On the plight of daily wage workers, the party pointed out that several states have already announced financial packages and other remedial measures such as availability of free masks and sanitizers and provisions for free food, etc. However, the Nagaland Government is yet to take a call on these critical and humanitarian issues, the press release stated. In this regard, the JDU appeals to the PDA government to urgently come out with necessary measures to address these “philanthropic concerns.”

Further, the party acknowledged the efforts of various ward councils and village authorities for their response to the COVID-19 and said “This kind of alertness must continue till normalcy is attained.” The JDU appealed to all concerned citizens to cooperate with the genuine advisories from the government towards battling the global pandemic and be vigilant against rumour-mongers least they became victims.
