Urra village demands withdrawal of military

Dimapur, January 17 (MExN): Villagers of Urra village in Dimapur district have demanded immediate withdrawal of military forces from their areas. The villagers are displeased at what they said is constant frisking of people and transport, occupation of a school at Urra and the general fear psychosis in and around the area the security forces, unidentified, are in.

The village wants the government’s immediate intervention so the public of the area can ‘carry on its normal daily activities any unnecessary hindrances.’ The village has also demanded that the security forces vacate the school they have occupied.

The Urra village authorities issued to the media a copy of a letter addressed to the chief secretary of Nagaland today. The three points of grievance the village’s brief letter outlined against the “paramilitary” were: “strict frisking of vehicles, its occupants and even pedestrian; occupation of school at Urra Village; existence of fear psychosis; insecurity of womenfolk.”

“Most respectfully, the undersigned on behalf of the Urra Area people humbly submitted this memorandum seeking your esteem authority intervention and necessary prompt action thereof.”

The village stated – “In reference to the above cited points, the union on behalf of the public would like to appeal your esteem authority to kindly intervene and take necessary measures by way of vacating the paramilitary forces at the earliest from the school campus and its area where the situation is quite normal and peaceful atmosphere is in existence. So the innocent public would carry on its normal daily activities any unnecessary hindrances.”
