USSC backs CSU demand for timely completion of NH-29 project

Kohima, June 16 (MExN): The United Sangtam Students' Conference (USSC) has extended its support to the Chakhesang Students' Union (CSU) in its demand for the timely completion of the NH-29 Two-Lane (Kohima–Jessami Road) Package-II project.

In a press release, the apex students' body of the Sangtam community expressed concern over the prolonged delay in the execution of the project despite repeated assurances from the concerned authorities and the EPC contractor, M/s Ratna Infra Project Private Limited.

The USSC stated that the delay has caused considerable hardship to the public and continues to hamper the developmental aspirations of the people. It described the Kohima–Jessami Road as a vital lifeline for residents of Kiphire district and other regions of Nagaland, providing access to education, healthcare, trade and other essential services.

According to the conference, the deteriorating condition of the road has not only raised safety concerns but has also resulted in economic losses for commuters and transporters. With the onset of the monsoon season, it said the situation has become more critical, while the slow pace of work reflects a lack of urgency and accountability on the part of the implementing agencies.

The USSC endorsed the demands raised by the CSU and urged the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) and the contractor to take immediate steps to restore, maintain and expedite the completion of the project.

Maintaining that infrastructure development is a responsibility towards the people, the conference stated that delays in completing essential projects undermine public trust and impede the socio-economic progress of the region.

The USSC further called on the concerned authorities to respond positively to the issues raised and ensure prompt action, accountability and tangible progress on the ground.
