Watsü Mungdang empowers students on women’s rights

Mokokchung, February 9 (MExN): Watsü Mungdang, the apex body of the Ao Women conducted a seminar on women’s rights exclusively for college going girls at Sangtemla Ward Community Hall, Mokokchung on February 8.


Topics on crimes against women, women identity and its crises and the role of Watsü (Ao Women) towards a holistic society were covered by various Watsü leaders.


Rongsenlemla, Convener of the Women’s Rights Committee, Watsü Mungdang speaking as one of the resource persons said, ‘to know your identity you must first understand your basic rights.’ She added that a person identity can be enhanced through education, knowledge imparted by parent at home and the environment in which she grows up.


She asserted that a woman must first know her identity then only she must pursue her rights and responsibilities towards the society.


“Nobody can rip off your identity, therefore, as the world progresses we too should look back and rectify what changes we have to bring within us to contribute to society as a responsible woman,” she said.


Another speaker, L Bendangla, the first general secretary of Watsü Mungdang, cleared doubts of general mass that Watsü Mungdang is an apex body not only for mothers alone but it a body means for all Ao women.


L Opangla, former president Watsü Mungdang asserted that unless women come out from the dependence on others they cannot find their rightful place in society.


The seminar was attended by students from Fazl Ali College, Peoples College, and Jubilee Memorial College and Church members from around the town.
