Where is justice and equality, asks ENPO

Supports ENSF’s demand

Dimapur, January 28 (MExN): The Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organization (ENPO) appeals to the Government of Nagaland to “immediately implement” the ‘written assurances’ given “by none other than the chief secretary of the state” on August 14 concerning posting of teachers in the eastern districts.

“As a matter of fact, this is not the first time that the state government has back tracked on its own promises and assurances given by it which clearly demonstrates the apathetic attitude and sheer lack of commitment towards the grievances of eastern Nagaland,” a note from the ENPO stated today.

The ENPO stated: “Where is justice and equality? When? Even genuine and legitimate demands cannot be considered on priority basis but instead try to make lame excuses and try to portray the demands as unreasonable and unrealistic.”

The organization said the state government “initiate some sincere efforts” to address the “backwardness and under-development of eastern Nagaland.” “Nobody wants confrontations but at the same time nobody wants to be discriminated and denied justice. In fact, the situation now demands extra efforts and the process of implementation of demands in letter and spirit to gain the confidence of the agitators, which may ultimately resolve the crises,” the ENPO stated.

ENLU invite ENSF for dialogue

Legislators from the eastern regions of the state have appealed to the agitating eastern Naga Students’ federation (ENSF) to call of its agitation and has invited the organization to a meeting February 2. The union met in an emergency meeting on January 27 in Dimapur. “After deliberating the situation relating to the demands and ongoing agitation, the ENLU members empathize with the ENSF and felt the essentiality and urgency to address in sorting out an early solution. The member however called upon the ENSF officials to resolve the issue amicably and call off the ongoing agitation…” the union said in a note today. The legislators have invited the ENSF leaders to a “consultative discussion” on February 2, 11:00 AM at the DUDA guest house in Kohima. “The ENLU members earnestly hope that the ENSF will comply with the appeal,” the note added.
