Kohima, February 5 (MExN): A total of 1,53,741 children were immunized in the state with the Oral Polio vaccine during the statewide Intensified Pulse Polio Immunisation (IPPI) programme which started on January 31.
According to updates from the State Immunisation Officer (UIP) Dr Ritu Thurr on Friday, the IPPI campaign was successfully completed in all districts with 100 per cent coverage of all estimated children between the ages of 0 to 5 years. The booth day on January 31 was followed by intensified house to house immunization for children who were left out.
As per the update, 45,322 children were immunized in Dimapur district; 24,309 in Mon; 14,901 in Kohima; 13,118 in Tuensang; 10,721 in Wokha; 10,429 in Phek; 9,372 in Peren; 8,119 in Zunheboto; 7,245 in Mokokchung; 5,828 in Kiphire; and 4,377 in Longleng.
Pulse polio rounds are critical to sustain eradication status of Poliomyelitis and to avoid resurgence, the update stated.
