Wokha ERO briefs pol parties on electoral roll, related issues

Wokha, January 9 (MExN): Electoral Roll Observer (ERO) for Wokha district, Y Kikheto Sema, Commissioner Secretary and Secretary PHED, Government of Nagaland visited the district on January 9 and held meeting at the Deputy Commissioner’s Official chamber.


As per DIPR report, briefing the political parties and electoral officials present, he quoted Article 325 of the Indian Constitution and said that no person will be ineligible for inclusion in electoral roll on ground of religion, race, caste or sex.


Sema also mentioned Section 17 & 18 of the Representation of Peoples Act 1950 & 51 and said that no person should be enrolled more than once in any constituency and not more than once in any constituency.


He reminded the political parties on appointment of BLA for assisting the BLOs in the field verification and also to identify ASD (Absent, Shifted, Dead) and deleting them through BLOs.


Analyzing the format 1-8 of Wokha district and comparing with that of Nagaland sate, the ERO appreciated healthy sex ratio maintained by the district, and also pointed out the deviation as compared to the electoral roll with that of census under enrolment in the age group of 18-19 and over enrolment in higher age group (abnormal enrolment). He urged the officials to rectify them during the revision period.


Sema further urged the political parties not to be active only during the time of election, but to cooperate with the election machinery during the revision so that the district can have error-free electoral roll.


After the meeting, the Roll Observer also visited some of the polling stations and checked the record of the BLOs and also meeting the leaders of the villagers and colonies.
