A five-day training programme on improved production technologies in floriculture commenced at the KVK Office conference hall, Wokha on May 18 under the Tribal Sub-Plan (TSP) project titled “Strengthening Tribal Farming Systems Through a Critical Input Support System and Technology Backstopping under the KVK Instructional Farm.”
District Public Relations Officer (DPRO), Wokha, Lolano Patton attended the inaugural session as the special guest and highlighted the growing potential of floriculture in creating avenues for self-employment and entrepreneurship, particularly among youth.
Addressing the participants, she said the training programme would provide valuable knowledge and practical strategies to help individuals enhance their skills and improve their capabilities in floriculture. Emphasising discipline and attentiveness during the training, she encouraged participants to explore floriculture as a sustainable livelihood opportunity.
Patton also spoke on the wide-ranging uses of flowers in everyday life, including medicinal applications, fragrance production and commercial prospects. She further stressed the role of digital marketing in expanding market access for floriculture products and proposed the formation of a Flower Growers Association in Wokha district to strengthen collaboration and sustainable business growth.
Earlier, Dr Mhalo Tungoe briefed participants on the objectives of the training, stating that the programme would cover various components of floriculture, production approaches, training schedules, exposure visits, awareness on government schemes, skill enhancement and value addition.
Delivering the keynote address, Senior Scientist and Head, ICAR-KVK Wokha, Dr Sandeep Deshmukh underscored the importance of technology backstopping and critical input support in strengthening floriculture practices.
The programme will feature practical demonstrations, interactive sessions and exposure visits aimed at promoting improved floriculture techniques and entrepreneurial development among participants.
