Wokha: Free driving license issued to female drivers

Wokha, February 4 (MExN): The Wokha District Administration and District Level Centre for Women-Mahila Shakti Kendra (DLCW-MSK) in collaboration with the Department of District Transport Office, Wokha, organized a distribution of free driving license for girls under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) on February 4.

The event also coincided with the Road Safety Month, a DIPR report informed.

The initiative for the same started in the second week of October 2020, where interested girls/candidates wanting to obtain driving license were enlisted. The candidates were trained on certain laid down procedure like driving class, driving test and other requirements and the culmination programmed was held on February 4 at Deputy Commissioner (DC) conference hall, Wokha, with Motor Vehicle Officer (MVO) Wokha, Masetshilong Longkumer as the resource person.

Altogether, 83 smart cards (driving license) were issued to the beneficiaries.

The MVO, while giving away the cards to the beneficiaries, highlighted about the Motor Vehicle Acts, the basics rules while taking the wheel and urged them to always carry the required documents while on the road. He also stated that during the Road Safety month, various kinds of awareness activities involving the taxi unions and drivers will be conducted to sensitize them about road safety.
