Wokha: Health workers given DAKSHATA training

WOKHA, MARCH 28 (MExN): The District Health Society (DHS) Wokha organised DAKSHATA training for health workers at Dr. Motsuo Memorial District Hospital Conference hall Wokha from March 26 to 28. Dr. Zubenthung Kikon, Chief Medical Officer Wokha welcomed the participants and thanked the DHS team for organising the training to enhance the skills of the service providers in the district.

Resource person for the training, Dr. Ayo Tha-o, Medical Officer, Community Health Centre Viswema, gave a brief introduction of DASHATA and highlighted on the importance of ensuring quality care in maternal health. Dr. Ayo also spoke on normal delivery and active management of third stage of labour, prevention, identification and management of PPH, organisation of labour room as per Government of India guidelines etc. 

Resource person, Sorenpeni Lotha, Community Health Officer, Health and Wellness Centre Pongitong, Wokha, took sessions on safe childbirth checklist to improve quality of care, training pregnant women, empowering birth companion, triaging pregnant women, prevention, identification and management of newborn infections, breastfeeding and assisted feeding for newborn etc. The resource persons also gave practical demonstrations using dummies and mannequins during the training. The participants included medical officers, staff nurses and community health officers from various health centres in the district.

DAKSHATA is an initiative under National Health Mission to improve the quality of maternal and newborn care during the intra and immediate post partum through service providers who are competent and confident.
