Wokha: JJM project stakeholders urged to oversee water supply infrastructure

Wokha, October 19 (MExN): On day-three of the ongoing residential training for community level participants under the JJM project at WDVCCA multipurpose building hall, Wokha, the resource person Dr Biplab Ghosh, SLIEM Skills, apprised the trainees on overseeing of water supply infrastructure during construction by community, monitoring of construction progress and quality by GP/VWSC/Pani Samiti during implementation phase and facilitate third party inspection, such as sufficient depth of pipe as per design and inspection of pipe joints and household connection leakage, quality checking of civil works, and ensuring the quality of construction materials by checking test certificates.

The four-day training is organised by PHE Department to sensitise the public about the roles and responsibilities to be shouldered by the stakeholders including the village functionaries and WATSAN members from October 17 to 21.
Aremo Ovung dwelled on Field Testing Kit (FTK) testing to the trainees during the training programme.

Salt Lake Institute of Engineering and Management Limited (SLIEM), a Kolkata based organisation, empanelled by the Ministry of Jal Shakti (Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation) as Key Resource Centre (KRC) under National JalJeevan Mission (NJJM) for Level-3 Community Level in association with WSSO, Public Health Engineering Department (Government of Nagaland) organised a four day training for the Jal Jeevan Mission, a central government initiative under the Ministry of Jal Shakti. 

The goal of JJM is to provide to all households in rural India safe and adequate water through individual household tap connections by 2024. According to the Government, the mission will include information, education and communication as key components. The mission is meant to create a people's movement for water, making it everyone’s priority. The programme is meant especially for the Village Water & Sanitation Committee (VWSC) and other Rural Local bodies (RLB). 

Community Level Participants were awarded a certificate of participation on the third day.
