Wokha pledges to keep fighting leprosy

Wokha, January 30 (MExN): The National Leprosy Eradication Programme (NLEP),Wokha observed Anti Leprosy Day with the theme ‘United for Dignity’ at Chief Medical Officer’s Conference hall Wokha on January 30.

According to a press release from the CMO’s office, the programme commenced with invocation by Mhayani Kithan, Accredited Social Health Activist while the Zonal Leprosy Officer (ZLO) Wokha Dr N Mhonchan Kithan delivered the keynote address.

Highlighting on the significance of the day, Dr Kithan said that Anti Leprosy Day is celebrated across the globe to achieve ‘Zero Leprosy’ and lauded the health workers for reporting suspected cases and addressing stigma related to the disease. He informed of three active Leprosy cases in the district and the patients are currently undergoing free treatment provided by NLEP. He also reminded the health workers to conduct leprosy fortnight activities till February 13.

Certificates of appreciation and cash amounts were presented to six health workers for their contribution to Leprosy activities conducted in the district. The participants also took pledge on SPARSH Leprosy awareness campaign which was read out by Mhonthung Tsanglao, Para Medical Worker (PMW).The programme concluded with vote of thanks delivered by Yanbeni Jungio, PMW.
