DIMAPUR, AUGUST 6 (MExN): The Directorate of Women Development, Government of Nagaland has responded to reports of backdoor appointments in its establishment. A rejoinder to this effect was issued by Vilone Sakhrie, Assistant Director. The rejoinder has stated that while the concern of responsible citizens regarding discrepancies, irregularities and other issues of concern in government and public matters are appreciated and encouraged, such people were also advised to get their facts right first before going public with unverified information.
The rejoinder was in response to the news item “Citizens furnish report of more backdoor appointments” which appeared on local dailies on 5th August, 2011 wherein the Department of Women Development was also mentioned as one of the departments involving in such activities. The Department stated that it was compelled to issue this rejoinder to put such allegations to rest.
The press rejoinder from the Assistant Director clarified that while three posts of Women Development Officers and one post of Assistant Research Officer (all Class II, Gazetted Posts) were created during the early part of 2010-11, these posts were filled at that time purely on contract basis as a temporary/stop-gap arrangement till they are filled through the NPSC. In the meanwhile, the Department informed that these posts were requisitioned to the NPSC, for which candidates have already sat for the NPSC exams and the results of which are still awaited. As such, the question of “backdoor appointment” does not arise regarding this matter, the Assistant Director stated.
The Department has therefore, once again requested any concerned citizen to exercise his or her Right to Information franchise and verify/clarify their doubts with competent officials before going to press based on hearsay. The Department also requested the local dailies to do the same before publishing such serious allegations.
