World Red Cross Day observed in Dimapur

Dimapur, May 8 (MExN): The Dimapur Red Cross celebrated World Red Cross Day at Holy Cross School Auditorium on May 8 with Chandu Agarwal, Chairman, Dimapur Red Cross as chief guest and Ghokuto Chophi, Vice-President, Naga Council Dimapur as guest of honour.

 

Team leaders of volunteers, auditorium volunteers, Red Cross members and others attended the programme. Honorary Secretary KK Paul spoke about the history and founder of Red Cross.

 

Dimapur Red Cross, Chairman announced about the Innerwheel Club, women's wing of Rotary Club of Dimapur sponsoring the appreciation certificates and chocolates for the 47 volunteers of the Containment Zone in Dimapur.

 

It may be mentioned that more than 500 Red Cross volunteers of Dimapur Red Cross have been actively assisting the District Administration and Chief Medical Officer for the past 45 days in maintaining social distancing at Fair Price Shops, medical and grocery shops, ration distributions, community kitchens works, food packaging, ATMs, malls besides conducting Thermal Screenings and distributing food packets etc.

 

Dimapur Red Cross has approximately 100 Patrons, 1000 Life Members, 3000 Youth Red Cross members. Volunteers have been active for almost a month in the containment areas to deliver medicines, ration, vegetables, fruits, LPG cylinders etc, besides conducting thermal screenings. Managing Committee Members of Dimapur Red Cross have assisted Chief Medical Officer, Dimapur in various ways including collecting communities' test samples in containment areas and quarantining the COVID-19 patients families.

 

Dimapur Red Cross has also issued more than 500 Red Cross jerseys, 2000 Hand Gloves, 1500 Sanitizers, 3000 masks, 50 raincoats, 30 umbrellas etc to its volunteers.

 

A press release issued by Ajay Sethi, Vice-Chairman Indian Red Cross Society Dimapur District Branch extended invitation that any interested citizen or organisations of Dimapur can become a Life Member or Patron of Red Cross by paying nominal fees to its Bank account or to Managing Committee Members. “Any amount of donation is most welcome too,” it added.
