World TB Day observed

Dimapur, March 25 (MExN): World Tuberculosis Day was observed in different parts of the state on March 24 under the theme ‘It’s time to end TB.’
In Kohima, the Kohima district TB Elimination Program carried out activities like distribution of pamphlets on awareness on TB to the public and patients in Naga Hospital, Kohima and District TB Centre, awareness campaigns on banners, radio talks in Nagamese and English to sensitize the people on Tuberculosis.
Meanwhile, the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programmme (NTEP) Wokha, marked the day with a campaign flagged off by Chief Medical Officer Wokha Dr C W Tungoe at District Tuberculosis Centre Wokha in the presence of NTEP staff. Dr Tungoe stated that due to the novel coronavirus outbreak, large scale programmes and activities were restricted by the state government. He urged the NTEP staff to identify TB patients and create more awareness that it is curable with timely intervention and proper medical treatment.
The NTEP staff led by Dr Akum Jamir, District Tuberculosis Officer pasted posters on TB in all the 23 colonies and wards around Wokha town.
In Phek, Revised National Tuberculosis Control Program (RNTCP) observed World TB Day on March 24.
Due to restriction of mass gatherings, this year’s activities were focused on Information Education Communication activities (IEC).
Dr Ruokuohelie Rutsa, District Tuberculosis Officer Phek held a review of the program activities, achievements made and challenges faced by the district were discussed.
He highlighted the changes made in the programme (NTEP) in order to achieve TB elimination by 2025 in India.
In order to create awareness among the public, leaflets on basic information about TB were distributed to the public.
