Dimapur, May 14 (MExN): The Western Sumi Hoho (WSH) in a press statement issued on May 14 stated that Nagas stranded outside in different places are “severely distressed facing immense difficulties like financial and accommodation issues, racial discrimination along with mental trauma and emotional distress etc since the Lockdown was enforced all across the nation.”
The Hoho made an appeal to evacuate stranded Nagas as soon as possible from the areas marked as Red and Orange zones as the COVID positive cases are surging beyond limit day by day and the longer they stay in the mainland the greater is the risk.
While appealing to evacuate Naga people stranded outside, the WSH mentioned that there have been several instances in the recent past where Naga youths have died outside the state and their mortal remains not even been able to bring back home and were buried without any of their families present to bid them farewell.
It maintained that though bringing back the stranded people is a matter of grave concern and pose a very high risk, “yet we cannot shy away from this challenge and keep them outside indefinitely as no one can tell when this COVId-19 pandemic will be contained and that we cannot expect our government will keep on providing all the basic needs to thousands stranded outside.”
The Hoho also highlighted that many of them have been rendered jobless without any resources and have to return back by any means. Stranded people include who went for medical treatment outside, senior citizens, students and those working outside and WSH expressed hope that the government will work out a meticulous plan in a phase wise manner while bringing them in and take all necessary steps.
Meanwhile, the WSH has appealed to everyone coming back to the state must strictly follow all the guidelines and procedures laid down by the authorities.
