YMC observes Literary and Cultural Day

Dimapur, December 10 (MExN): Yemhi Memorial College (YMC), Dimapur observed its 5th Literary and Cultural Day on December 7 at the college premises under the theme ‘Retrospect the past and Transcend to future.’


Joshua Achumi, Chairman Governing Body, YMC graced the programme as the special guest. In his address, the speaker reminded the students to always keep tradition alive so that continuity “in our history is embedded deeply in our psyche.”


He said that “without our traditional culture we will lose our history and without history our identity as people will be buried in the sands of time.”


Achumi further encouraged the students to uphold our rich culture and tradition and challenged them to develop healthy cultural practices like obedience, sincerity, discipline, hard work and being polite to everyone at all times. 


The programme was chaired by Hika Awomi and Sulika Chishi. Other highlights of the programme included welcome speech by Victor V Aye, Literary and Cultural Secretary YMCSU.


Welcome song was presented by Tenyimia students, traditional song by Yimchunger students, Bamboo dance by Konyak students. Sumi students of the college also presented a Drama on the story of Inakha and Ghonili.


The day was also marked by literary competitions like debate, public speaking, poetry and essay competition. Different indigenous games and display of traditional attires were displayed by the students. Kinivi K Awomi, Assistant Literary and Cultural Secretary, YMCSU delivered the vote of thanks.
