Youth asked to join politics

Dimapur, November 12 (MExN): The 9th general session cum federal assembly of the Western Yimchungru Students’ Union (WYSU) under the theme ‘confronting challenges ahead’ was held on November 12 at the local ground of Old Showuba Village, Dimapur. The programme was graced by Conrad K Sangma, MLA and Leader of Opposition, Meghalaya as special guest and Throngshi, president, Yimchungru Akheru Arih-ako as speaker.
Speaking at the programme, Sangma encouraged the youth to join politics as more than 50 percent of the country’s population is youth and advised the youth to raise voice. “When we feel something is wrong, we must speak out,” he stressed. He enunciated that students must participate in nation building and take up issues for the welfare of common man as students are most important people for the country.
Citing the example of her younger sister, Agatha Sangma, Union Minister of States, India, the Leader of Opposition, Meghalaya said it is high time that the young people should join politics to transform the country with new ideas and innovations and added that participation in such programmes would inculcate the spirit of leadership among the youth.
Referring to the programme, Sangma said he enjoy and love to attend and meet youths in such programmes since he is young too, however, as a politician by profession; he always had to work with old people.
Suggesting youth to have ambition for their lives, Conrad K Sangma said youth must have vision and goal in their lives, however, to achieve their desired goal they have to work hard.  Although, he stressed that there is no problem in changing goals but to achieve the goals one should work hard. “Aims might change and there is no problem in it,” he stated.
While exhorting the students, PKF Tochu, president, Western Yimchungru Hoho, said that quality education is the need of the hour in the present society so as to compete in competitive examinations. Referring to the student community as the backbone of the society, the president advised them to display discipline and respect their elders to set examples for their youngsters.
Throngshi, president, Yimchungru Akheru Arih-ako, stated that students should not only concentrate in studies but rather they should also take up challenges like appearing competitive examinations for the welfare of their tribe and people as a whole. He encouraged the Yimchungru students not only to depend on backward quota, but rather compete in general. He advised the students to remain humble as being humble to all would cost them nothing but would earn them respect from young and old alike.
The programme was attended by Shilimthong, vice-president, Yimchungru Tribal Council (YTC), president of the Eastern Nagaland Students’ Union Dimapur, Yimso Yimchungru, Director of Mission Possible, Western Yimchungru Women Organization, GBs and elders.
