ZPOK dissolved, ZCCK takes interim charge

Kohima, November 29 (MExN): The Zeliang Co-ordination Committee, Kohima was with the elected Zeliang Representatives from Zeme Council, Kohima and Liangmai Welfare Society, Kohima and representatives from all the Zeliang Village Units, Kohima on November 18.

Informing this in a press release on November 29, the ZCCK Media Cell informed that the formation of the committee was necessitated based on the need to “form a fresh and mandated Zeliang organisation” in Kohima.

In the meeting, the house recalled that it had served an ultimatum to the Zeliang People Organisation, Kohima to convene a general meeting to form a mandated organisation of the community in Kohima on or before November 25, 2019. “However, they have failed to convene and conduct a fresh mandate of the said organisation and remained to exist till today without any mandate,” it claimed. As such, it said that the ZCCK resolved to put forth a press statement regarding the “unmandated Zeliang People Organistion, Kohima (ZPOK) being run by the self-style persons Visa Meru as President and Joshua Newmai as General Secretary.”

It went to state that since its inception in  2004, the ZPOK officials had been elected for a tenure of 3 years but the aforementioned officials “have never intimated to the general public or conducted any General Meeting nor consensus election of ZPOK officials” even after the end of their tenure. In this regard, the ZCCK stated that the two ZPOK officials “are unmandated and self-styled officials of ZPOK and they are no longer recognized by the general Zeliang people living in Kohima.”

The ZPOK stands dissolved, it maintained, while adding that the two officials “are prohibited and desisted from representing Zeliang People, Kohima in any official manner or any tribal related issue” till mandated and consensus office bearers of a mandated Zeliang organisation is elected by the Zeliang people of Kohima.

It further advised any government department, Tribal Hoho, institution, etc., “not to intimate these self-style unmandated officials of ZPOK because they do not represent the Zeliang people of Kohima in any form or manner as such.” Therefore, the Committee (ZCCK) can be informed about any tribal related issue till such time a mandated organisation is formed, it added.
