Zunheboto, October 19 (MExN): The office of the Chief Medical Officer along with the District Health Society (DHS) Zunheboto organized the launching programme of Surakshit Matritva Aashwasan (SUMAN) at District Hospital conference hall, Zunheboto on October 19.
Dr Shikato SMO, Sr Specialist (Surgeon) in his address highlighted the main aim of SUMAN scheme which is to reduce and stop all preventable maternal and infant deaths by providing free treatment and quality healthcare to pregnant women and newborn. He stressed on how SUMAN will be beneficial for the state and to implement the scheme in the district, DH Zunheboto was selected among by the state government along with the various health units.
In the keynote address, Dr Heto Swu DPO (UIP&RCH) briefly highlighted about the SUMAN activities in the district till date. He delivered a detailed statistics on maternal mortality rate and infant mortality rate which shows a drastic declination compare to a decade ago and it is due to the initiative taken by the government. He stated that SUMAN is a collaboration and collective of all the existing programs like JSY, JSSK, PMSMA.
He elaborated on the vision of SUMAN which is to achieve zero maternal and infant death through quality care with dignity and respect and the goal is to end all preventable maternal and new born death and the objective is to assured, dignified, respectful and quality healthcare at no cost and zero tolerance for denial of service to women and new-born visiting the healthcare. The beneficiaries for this scheme are the pregnant women and upto 6 months after post and sick infants.
Nyamok Konyak EAC delivered a short speech on behalf of the administration. She requested the department in rededicating and ensuring better healthcare services through SUMAN. Dr C Yanpo Kithan, Medical Superintendent DH launched the SUMAN facility.
The programme was chaired by Rosemary Vitoli DPM (NHM) and Dr Meyielhi Kapfo, Sr Specialist Ob & Gy proposed vote of thanks. The programme was attended by the CMO, DY CMO, STH, CSOs, staffs under CMO and DH establishment, administration representatives.
