The Director Information & Broadcasting, Government of India, Armstrong Pame, IAS during his visit to Zunheboto District held a meeting with various stakeholders at DC conference hall, Zunheboto on March 14. The meeting was chaired by Rahul Bhanudas Mali, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of Zunheboto. It was attended by representatives from Sumi Totimi Hoho, Sumi Kukami Hoho, Sümi Kiphimi Küqhakulu and Sumi Youth Organisation.

Addressing the meeting, Armstrong Pame spoke about the educational structure, emphasizing that we are significantly lagging behind in almost every field of study. He mentioned the importance of focusing on education and emphasized how we must help students grow stronger in their studies.

He encouraged students who had completed Class 12 but were not continuing with further studies, urging them to consider joining ITI programmes, where they could earn a salary of around 8 lakh. He highlighted the opportunities available in science fields and mentioned that students could pursue careers in various fields such as car mechanics and other science-related professions. Additionally, there are many national credits that can help our businesses thrive.

He also encouraged students to take up the science stream. He emphasized that science is not just a subject but the foundation of progress. Every invention, discovery, and breakthrough that has transformed the world is rooted in science. He challenged students to view this as an opportunity for growth and progress.

After the meeting, the Director and the team also visited Government Higher Secondary School and Shovishe Memorial High School, Zunheboto, to cheek the implementation of vocational education and other infrastructure of the school. During the inspection, he assessed various aspects of the schools, including infrastructure, teaching standards, student performance, and overall hygiene.

Kughazhe Swu, Senior Principal of GHSS Zunheboto mentioned the lack of students opting for the science stream in Zunheboto district and their tendency to pursue science education in other districts, such as Dimapur and Kohima. He acknowledged the understanding issue but noted that many bright students are choosing to enroll in institutions in other districts rather than studying science in local schools. He stated that we must work together to improve science education in our district.

Pame donated career guidance materials to the Sumi Youth Organisation and Sumi Kiphimi Kukhakulu.
