Kohima: Under the theme, ‘21st Century Battlefield’, the Konyak Students’ Union Kohima organized a seminar on career guidance at the State Academy Hall on May 17. Changei Konyak, DIG, Alemtemshi Jamir, IAS, Chief Secretary, Rtd and Honje Konyak, Deputy Commissioner Kohima were the resource persons.
Speaking to a gathering of more than 100 students, Alemtemshi stated that one has to understand one’s mental attitude and in which century we are living in, in order to speed up one’s adaptation process in accordance with the evolution of societies. Alemtemshi also emphasized on the need to learn better to know the huge depth of knowledge which is available in all forms while adding that our social contexts and the available resources needs to be understood. “In the 21st Century when you are faced with too much materialism and so much knowledge, it is possible that your spiritual life will be affected,” said Alemtemshi.
“If you are worried about your future you have to be worried about the kind of governance that comes into power. Young people needs to become responsible electorate,” added Alemtemshi while sharing on survival in the context of Nagaland where he also stated that Nagaland don’t have much hopes to improve unless we concentrate on things like the millennium development goals of the UN which gives emphasis on transparency in the government, poverty alleviation and decent and productive work.
Talking on the world being flat, Alemtemshi stated that Nagas today watch the same program on TV as others in the rest of the world and use the same technological gadgets as any American or Japanese. However, he added that the world today offers equal opportunities, which also means competition and the survival of the fittest.
Honje Konyak asserted that to be prepared in the 21st Century battle, one needs to assess the ground realities of one’s society.
