2.33 lakh households in Nagaland under AB-PMJAY scheme

Dimapur, September 18 (MExN):  Nagaland has 2.33 lakh households which are covered under the Ayushman Bharat scheme, according to the Minister of State in the Ministry Of Health And Family Welfare, Ashwini Kumar Choubey.

The Minister was responding to an unstarred question in the Rajya Sabha on details of health insurance coverage in the country raised by Trinamool Congress MP Derek O’Brien on September 15.

While the Minister cited unavailability of data related to rural-urban divide in health insurance coverage in the country, there is a total of 13.13 crore beneficiary families under the Ayushman Bharat –Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) scheme as of September 8, 2020.

Slated to be ‘world’s largest health assurance scheme’, the AB-PMJAY was launched in 2018, and provides insurance cover of Rs 5 lakh per family per year.

Earlier, in September 2019, Dr Kikameren Longkumer, State Nodal Officer, AB-PMJAY, Nagaland had informed that the State had a target of 2.3 lakhs beneficiary families out of which, only 28% were covered with PMJAY e-card being issued in Nagaland till September 15, 2019.

The scheme provides cover for hospitalized care including some day care procedures with a total of 1,534 treatment packages. With the e-card, the beneficiary can avail treatment from any empanelled government or private hospital across the country.

PMJAY is fully funded by the Government and cost of implementation is shared between the Central and State Governments.
