The 3rd Edition of ‘Unscripted’ organised by Writers Collective was held at The BookHome, Kohima on July 4.
Talking about Unscripted, Dr Vizovono Elizabeth, General Secretary of Writers Collective stated belief that, “in contemporary times, this is a creative way to adapt, and revive our storytelling tradition so that we continue to keep it alive.”
While they may not be sitting around a fireplace in a traditional kitchen but wherever they can gather, she urged, “let us continue to share our stories so that we do not deprive the coming generations of our rich traditions.”
She also highlighted that Unscripted is an initiative of Writers Collective Kohima, a group of like-minded people who came together through their love of literature and storytelling, and has also been organizing the annual Nagaland Literature Festival (NLF) since 2021 with the vision to nurture and promote literature in Nagaland.
Although it has been functioning as an independent group, with little to no funds or financial resources, she acknowledged the goodwill and support of many other like-minded individuals and parties.
Encouraged by the support of the people, and taking their vision beyond NLF, she added that, “we thought of having smaller literary gatherings where we could provide a platform for storytelling, conversations and discussions more frequently.”
Towards this end, the concept was introduce last year under the title Open Book, and had two editions, but has now been renamed as Unscripted, to make it more inclusive of all forms of storytelling, keeping in mind our rich Naga oral literature.
In a way, she remarked that, “Unscripted is a new chapter for us, as we explore new ways of telling, sharing, and promoting our Naga stories, particularly involving elders from our communities.”
Mention may be made here that the first two editions of Unscripted were earlier held this year with author Charles Chasie, and oral storyteller, elder, Kevipele Iheilung, hosted by Kohima College, Kohima and St Xavier’s College, Jalukie respectively.
The programme was chaired by Dr Avinuo Kire, Author & Poet, and Member, Writers Collective.
