The Longsa Village Council (LVC) under Wokha district on Friday destroyed a consignment of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) seized within the village, reaffirming its strict enforcement of a ‘no-alcohol and no-intoxicants policy.’

According to the Council, the destroyed liquor totalling 25 bottles and one quarter bottle, with an estimated value of around Rs 10,000.

The Longsa Village Council GB Robin Kikon informed The Morung Express said the IMFL was confiscated during a surprise checking conducted by the village council on July 2 as part of its regular enforcement drives aimed at curbing the entry and circulation of alcohol and other intoxicants within the village.

During the operation, a van driver transporting the liquor was intercepted. The driver claimed that the consignment did not belong to him but that he was transporting it on behalf of two other individuals. The LVC subsequently identified and apprehended the two offenders.

Kikon informed that one offender, being a first-time violator, was fined Rs 5,000, while the second offender, who had previously committed a similar offence, was fined Rs 10,000. He further stated that under the village’s regulations, anyone caught violating the prohibition policy for a third time would be expelled from the village.

The destruction of the seized liquor was carried out in the presence of all members of the LVC, office bearers of the Longsa Village Students’ Union and church leaders, demonstrating the community’s collective commitment to enforcing the village’s prohibition policy.

The LVC also issued a stern warning against the sale, possession and transportation of alcohol and other intoxicants within its jurisdiction, stating that anyone found violating the village’s rules would face strict action in accordance with its established regulations.

Kikon said the village council would continue conducting surprise inspections and appealed to all residents to cooperate in maintaining a healthy, peaceful and intoxication-free community.
