Students performing traditional dances during the 5th edition of ‘Historia Diem’ held at St. Joseph University.

CHÜMOUKEDIMA, SEPTEMBER 4 (MExN): The Department of History, St. Joseph University, in collaboration with the Heritage Club, organised the 5th edition of Historia Diem on September 2 at the university auditorium on the theme “Revitalize Tribal Culture and Tradition.”
The programme began with an invocation prayer by B Leyemonyu of PG III semester and was chaired by Ms. Litan L Phom of the same semester. A special song by Hiwehatsou and a Jaintia folk dance by Raplang Lamurong of UG V semester set the tone for the event.
Dr Muleto Vero, Assistant Professor, Department of History, delivered the keynote address, stressing the urgent need to preserve and revive tribal culture and traditions amid contemporary societal changes. The formal session concluded with a vote of thanks by Nokshing Shiu, General Secretary of the History Department Association, and a closing prayer by Eyilobeni, Finance Secretary.
The informal session, compered by Devopotin Mech (PG III) and Ariena Mao Changkiri (UG V), featured cultural competitions with active student participation. UG V semester won the folk-drama contest, while UG III and UG I secured second and third positions. In folk dance, PG III claimed first place, followed by UG III and UG V. UG I and UG III were adjudged best-attired teams in the folk-drama and folk-dance categories respectively.
Individual awards included Best Costume for Denngoi Phom (PG III), Best Step Performance for PG III, Best Actor Male for Tsudangmong (UG V), Best Actor Female for Ronren (UG III), Best Supporting Actor Male for Phiko Rakho (UG I) and Best Supporting Actor Female for Tumchobeni (UG III).
Around 225 students and faculty members attended the event, which was coordinated by K Hokato Sumi and Dr. Lanuchila Changkiri, Assistant Professor, Department of History.
