5th State Level Kala Utsav and Cultural day 2019 held

Scores of students from different parts of the state today joined 5th State Level Kala Utsav & Cultural Day 2019 organized by Samagra Shiksha Nagaland here at Dr. Neilhouzhü Kire Government Higher Secondary School, Seikhazou.
The students competed in the field of music, dance and painting. The winners will represent the state at the National Level Kala Utsav at Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, Bhopal scheduled for January 2 to 6 next year.
Information & Public Relations director Limawati Ao while gracing the inaugural function said that that dance and physical activities should have the same status in school as mathematics, science and languages.
He urged the stakeholders in the state education system to promote co-curricular activities with seriousness. “Dance can help restore joy and stability in troubled lives, and ease the tensions in schools that are disrupted by violence and bullying," he said.
He said studies have indicated that music can lead to an improvement in brain development and neural processing was found to be better in students who played a musical instrument than those who simply listened to music.
Also speaking on the occasion, Timothy Thong, deputy mission director, Samagra Shiksha and State Project Coordinator Kala Utsav, Nagaland said that Kala Utsav has been launched the Ministry of Human Resource Development in 2015 to promote arts in education, by nurturing and showcasing the artistic talent of school students in the country.
He said the Ministry recognized the importance of aesthetics and artistic experiences for secondary-level students, which plays a major role in creating awareness about India's rich cultural heritage and its vibrant diversity.
In the context of education of Arts (Music, Dance, Visual Arts and Crafts), the initiative is guided by the recommendations of the National Curriculum Framework 2005 (NCF-2005).
He said that Kala Utsav helps students explore, understand and showcase their artistic talent of practicing different art forms.
“This event gives students the opportunity to understand and celebrate cultural diversity at the school, district, state and national levels,” he said adding that the design of Kala Utsav helps students explore, understand and showcase their artistic talent of practicing different art forms.

Further, this also help to promote networking of artists, artisans and institutions with schools, he said adding that Kala Utsav helps in enhancing the various skills of the participants and prepares them as ambassadors of our culture.
It helps the school students in identifying and understanding our diverse tangible and intangible cultural expressions, he said.
The function was led by Liyalo Apon, assistant mission director Samagra Shiksha Nagaland while vote of thanks was proposed by Chungngam Konyak, assistant mission director, Samagra Shiksha Nagaland.
