ZUBZA, JUNE 1 (MExN): The 78th Battalion, CRPF celebrated its 35th Raising Day at Unit Head Quarter located at Zubza, Kohima on June 1. There was however no formal function due to present pandemic situation. 


The occasion commenced in the morning with tree plantation. Homage was also paid to martyrs who had sacrificed their lives in the service of the nation.  Wreaths were laid by officers and men at the Jai Jawan Memorial structure. 


Head of office, Ram Chandra hoisted the CRPF flag and took the salute at unit quarter guard and briefed the jawans about the achievements and important role played by the battalion since its establishment on June 1, 1985 at Group Centre CRPF Avadi (Tamil Nadu) under the leadership of PK Menon, Commandant.  


Later the Battalion was deployed in various  States of the country  viz. Punjab, Mizoram, Bihar, Assam, West Bengal, Utta Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh Nagaland, Tamil Nadu and J&K for maintaining law & order duties, anti-militancy, internal security and counter-insurgency duties. 


At present, 78 Bn functioning at Zubza, Kohima from August 2007 and its companies are deployed in Kohima & Dimapur Districts for ROP/Pickets, security of vital installation, escort & CPT of Governor of Nagaland and civil convoy escort duties etc.  Since its raising, 8 personnel of this units have been awarded Police Medal for Gallantry.  


As a part of the celebration, an Inter Coy Shuttle Badminton competition was held in the evening.  Head of office, Ram Chandra handed over the prizes to the winning and runner-up teams of the Inter Company Shuttle badminton competition and emphasized to encourage the Jawans to involve themselves more in sporting activities so as to help them maintain their physical fitness. 


A combined “Bara Khana” (Grand Feast) was also organized, in which officers & men dined together by maintaining proper social distance and other safety precautions.
