Kohima, September 10 (MExN): The State Drugs Control Administration (SDCA), Department of Health & Family Welfare, today cautioned against the illegal sale of restricted drugs and informed that the licenses of nine pharmacies have been canceled in Nagaland for engaging in such ‘illegal activities.’
In a statement via DIPR, the SDCA asserted that it is fully committed to the fight against the social menace of drug abuse in Nagaland, in line with the State Government’s declaration on the “War Against Drugs.”
To this end, a comprehensive state-wide inspection campaign has been launched to address the growing concern of licensed pharmacies engaging in the illegal sale of Codeine-Based Syrup (CBS) and psychotropic substances, as well as the widespread misuse and abuse of these pharmaceutical products by youngsters.
Additionally, sales of certain categories of commonly abused narcotic drugs and psychotropic pharmaceutical products have been restricted through a notification by the State Government in the interest of the general public, although there are no legal sanctions or provisions under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940 and Rules, it highlighted.
The SDCA is strictly enforcing the aforementioned notification and provisions of the Act and is leaving no stone unturned in dealing with licensed medicine dealers involved in the illegal sale of restricted drugs, it added.
While taking a proactive approach to curb the menace, the SDCA cautioned licensed dealers to desist from illegal practices and reaffirmed that no licensee shall be spared but will be strictly dealt with according to the law.
It also acknowledged the State Police Force for their concerted cooperation and coordination in providing security and intelligence inputs.
Recent actions for involvement in illegal activities included either cancellations or suspensions of the licenses of nine pharmacies.
