“The longer the night lasts, the more our dreams will be”. Nagas have lived through against many odds in the process of political development of not less than six decades. We fought more wars among our own people than the wars with Indian state under the banner of Nagas’ cry for sovereignty. Hatred, jealousy, tribalism, etc have dominated the movement. Naga Hoho believes that the longer we stay in a disadvantageous position, the more probability we’ll take and the Nagas will ultimately perish one day.
It is useless to apply minor remedies to a major problem. Following the discontentment and break down of Cease-Fire in 1964 and the signing of Shillong Accord in 1975, a Cease-Fire Agreement was signed in 1997 between the GOI and NSCN (IM). Side by side, another Cease-Fire was declared between the GOI and NSCN (K) in 2001. So far, more than 50 rounds of political talks were held in and outside India and a new political dimension took place during the last Talk held in Bangkok in July, 2006. It is left to us whether we support extension of Cease-Fire every now and then or be subjected to political negotiation. This has to be re-evaluated vis-à-vis honorable and acceptable solution at the earliest.
The political atmosphere, involving social and the political activist in the home front is not very encouraging. Insecurity and abhorrence have been instilled in the minds of the people owing to various forms of killings continuing even during the Cease-Fire period. When there is Cease-Fire with the adversaries, there is no question of killing innocent brothers by brothers and casting out a member of one’s own family. Is this the creation of policy makers in the main land with the connivance of anti-Naga politicians? Naga Hoho firmly feels that such conflicting approach should be obliterated if Nagas are truly yearning for peace and long-term solution. It is high time for the Nagas to realize that “An inch of time is an inch of gold but you can’t buy that inch of time with an inch of gold.”
Rampant taxation/ extortion imposed upon the public and bizarre accumulation of wealth by National workers is another matter of great concern. No doubt, any political movement or Revolutionary group survived only when there was selfless contribution from the people and history will never deny that. However, in the context of Naga freedom movement, the National workers must prove that they are worthy of their cause.
Consequent upon the Launching of National Reconciliation on December 20, 2001 under the aegis of Naga Hoho and the resultant exigencies to keep the process in abeyance due to many factors, the Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) has once again brought the process in to lime light on September 29, 2006. The initiative is to heal our land and its people which needs persistent support and cooperation from all ranks and files.
Keeping all these in mind, it has become imperative for the Naga Hoho to organize a day long Dialogue on the prevailing political atmosphere at Zonal Council Hall, Kohima on October 25, 2006, where all mass based Organizations, intellectuals, political parties, churches, and the concerned citizens are fervently requested to come and attend so as to have a meaningful Dialogue towards safeguarding our future generation. “A society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in.”
“COME AND BE A CONTRIPUTING FACTOR TOWARDS RESTRUCTURING OUR SOCIETY”.
