Dimapur, May 17 (MExN): Condolences poured in from various quarters after the demise of Eastern Nagaland Public Organisation President C Sashi Naga on May 17.

Governor: Offering condolences to the bereaved family, Governor Ravi said late Sashi was known for his personal and public virtues and his life was in service to the people. “The people of Eastern Nagaland had recently given him the responsibility of leadership and elected him the President, ENPO. His relentless and selfless services towards the society will be remembered for years to come.” In his demise the State has lost a tall and dedicated leader, the Governor stated. 

CM: “Late Sashi was a dedicated and a selfless social worker, who worked tirelessly for the welfare of the people particularly for those in need. As a leader of civil society he made significant contributions and sacrifices for the masses and his footprints will always be remembered for all times to come,” Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio stated in his condolence message.

In his death, the Eastern Naga people in particular and the Nagas in general have lost a guardian and a leader and the vacuum left by him will be difficult to fill, he added, while conveying condolences to the bereaved family, the ENPO family and his well wishers. 

ENWOD: The Eastern Nagaland Women Organisation Dimapur unit said that the Nagas, particularly the people of Eastern Nagaland, have lost a great and humble leader. “No one and nothing can fill the void created by the immeasurable loss. We are indeed deeply pained and we pray that may the good lord give his family the strength to get through this difficult time,” it added.

RCN: The Rongmei Council Nagaland (RCN) also mourned the untimely demise of “a tall leader,” and said that the vacuum left by his death would be irreplaceable. It extended condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace. 

NDPP: On behalf of the rank and file of the NDPP, party president Chingwang Konyak expressed sorrow at the demise of “a promising leader who would have made immense contributions to not only to Eastern Nagaland, but also to the Nagas in general.” We also convey our sincere condolence and pray that Almighty God bestow strength and solace to the members of the bereaved family during this sad and trying time, the NDPP president stated in a condolence message.

KTC: The Khiamniungan Tribal Council (KTC) expressed deep sorrow and sadness and said that “His demise has been a great loss to the ENPO and the people of Nagaland in general.” It conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for the departed soul to rest in eternal peace.

Minister Pangnyu: Nagaland’s Health and Family Welfare Minister S Pangnyu Phom remembered late Sashi as a highly respected man with vast experience, having served in various public forums.  “His contribution in all spheres for the growth and development of our State shall be remembered in his absence,” he said while adding that his passing away was a huge loss especially at a time when the people are in need of experienced leaders. Pangnyu conveyed condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for the departed to rest in peace. 

Deputy CM: In his condolence message, Deputy Chief Minister and BLP leader Y Patton said that late Sashi had recently taken up the mantle of leadership as ENPO president and “was truly determined for working towards a common goal of the Nagas which unfortunately has been cut short.” His death is a big blow to the Nagas because this was the time when his service was needed most by the people, he said, while conveying condolences to the bereaved family. 

KU: “He was a true leader with a charismatic ability and dedication to serve the people with commitment and sincerity. He has served the eastern people in various capacities under the banner of ENPO for many years. His service, dedication and commitment towards the eastern region shall be forever cherished and remembered,” the Konyak Union stated in its condolence note.

On behalf of all Konyak civil societies including the Konyak Nyupuh Sheko Khung and the Konyak Students’ Union, the KU conveyed condolences to the bereaved family. “On behalf of the Konyak community and with deep respect to the departed soul, Mon district shall observe two days of mourning on May 17 and 18,” it added. 

MLA Yangseo: Stating that late Sashi Naga was truly a God-fearing leader, a dedicated social reformer, a vibrant preacher amongst the Eastern Nagas, and a man of conviction who always stood firm and tall towards the cause of Eastern Nagaland in particular and Nagas in general, MLA T Yangseo Sangtam said that his demise was a great loss not only for the Sangtam community but also the Nagas. He also conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members and prayed that the Almighty grant peace and solace at this hour of grief and sorrow.

NGA: “It was only recently that he had taken on this prestigious post of President ENPO, and there was so much expected from him under his able leadership. His sudden and shocking passing away has left a big void that would be felt all around,” the Nagaland Gorkha Association stated, expressing shock and sadness at the unexpected demise. The association further conveyed condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for the soul of the departed leader.

Naga Hoho: The Naga Hoho described late Sashi as a humble person and a dedicated social worker who had served the Naga people, particularly the ENPO, in various capacities. “During his life time, he had contributed his best for the welfare of the people. Nagas have lost a true son of the soil and the vacuum created by him will be irreparable,” it added. The Hoho conveyed condolences to the bereaved family members and colleagues. “We pray that God Almighty grand peace and comfort to his near and dear ones. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” it added.

DENSU: The Dimapur Eastern Nagaland Students’ Union mourned the demise of the “exceptional tall leader and a man of God who had selflessly contributed his life to his people till his last breath.” It said that his unwavering dedication and devotion to his people were tributes to his high principles and said that his invaluable contributions and profound allegiance will always be remembered. “We express sincere sympathy to the bereaved family and dear ones and we pray for God’s kindness to endure the sudden demise. May the departed soul rest in peace,” it added.

PPC: Describing the departed leader as a God fearing man, the Phom Peoples' Council stated that late Sashi lived a sacrificial life, always ready to shoulder the responsibility for the cause of Eastern Nagaland. It said that he served as the Vice President of ENPO for three tenures from 2009 to 2017, and as the ENPO Advisor from 2018-2021, before taking on the role of ENPO President in March this year. “With his untimely demise the people of Eastern Nagaland has lost a sincere and dedicated leader,” it stated, while conveying condolences to the bereaved family on behalf of the Phom community. 

MIP GPRN/NSCN (K): “We are profoundly saddened by the passing away of the President of the Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO), C Sashi Naga,” the MIP of the NSCN/GPRN (K) said in its message, adding that late Sashi was “a thorough gentleman who always had the welfare of his people at heart.” It conveyed condolences to the members of the bereaved family and prayed for eternal peace for the departed soul.

TT Among: In his condolence message, member of the Collective Leadership, NSCN/GPRN TT Among stated that the departed leader was a man of his word who practiced what he preached and a tall leader who was highly respected throughout his community and profession. “Though he may be gone, his love and dedication for the people and his tremendous contribution to the Eastern Nagaland and the Nagas in general will always be remembered,” the message stated, while conveying condolences to the bereaved family. 

NPF (Mon): Expressing sorrow at the demise of one of the most prominent leaders of Eastern Nagaland and sitting President of Eastern Naga People's Organization (ENPO), the Naga People's Front Mon Division conveyed condolences and extended solidarity to the people of Eastern Nagaland and the bereaved family of late Sashi Naga. “May the Almighty God solace the people of Eastern Nagaland in time of such sorrowful period,” it added.

TUD: Recalling “the initiatives he had undertaken without publicity and silently spreading the message of Brotherhood of all Nagas beyond the Nagaland state,” the Tangkhul Union Dimapur stated that late Sashi was a peace loving citizen who had rendered enormous services to the Naga people and the Eastern Nagas in particular as a true social worker. “It will not be over-stating in saying that he had given his best service towards uniting all Naga people beyond borders,” it added. 

“No one and nothing can fill the void created by the loss of our dear brother,” it stated while conveying heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.

TTAWU: The Tuensang Town All Ward Union described the departed leader as an upright and dedicated leader who worked tirelessly for the upliftment of the Eastern Naga community. His demise has been a great loss for the Naga people, it said, while conveying condolences to the bereaved family. 

ENLU: “Late C Sashi Naga was a very dedicated and visionary leader, who has spent most of his life time working and voicing for the people of Eastern Nagaland and Nagas in various capacities. The people of Eastern Nagaland have lost a true and dynamic leader of the soil whose immense contributions will be deeply remembered,” the Eastern Nagaland Legislators’ Union stated in its condolence note. 

MLA Muthingnyuba: Stating that late Sashi was a man of integrity and someone who stood strong by his values and principles, MLA Muthingnyuba Sangtam said that his virtues shone through his relentless pursuit for social justice and fight against discrimination. The MLA stated that the vacuum created by his demise would be very hard to fill. “My wife and I, convey our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. We pray for God to give the family solace and strength to endure this time of grief,” he added. 

USLP: Paying tribute to its former General Secretary, the United Sangtam Likhum Pumji (USLP) stated that the departed leader was an upright individual and a man of impeccable integrity who serve his people of Eastern Nagas with outmost dedication and valour. Known for his honesty and virtue late C Sashi Naga was a god fearing man who steadfastly supported and contributed in strengthening the relation between eastern brothers and Nagas in general, it added. While conveying condolences to the bereaved family, it said that late Sashi had left behind indelible contributions towards the Sangtam community and Eastern Nagas, for which he will always be remembered. 

NPP: The NPP Nagaland state said that late Sashi’s exemplary service and revolutionary work will forever remain untainted. “As we mourn the loss of a great treasure of the soil, we also remember in our prayers the bereaved family members,” it stated in a condolence message. 

YAA: The Yimchungrü Akherü Arihako stated that late Sashi who was known for his conviction and boldness, was a distinguished person who served his people in various capacities with utmost devotion. “His contribution for the social cause is immense and that his leadership qualities shall remain an inspiration for the younger generation. His demise is anguishing at this time when his people need him the most and his passing away has left a vacuum in eastern Nagaland,” it added, while conveying condolences to the bereaved family. 

CNSA: “Late C Sashi Naga is a man of principle, bold and straight-forward, regarded as a tall leader where his untimely demise has created a huge vacuum particular in ENPO society and Naga society in general,” the Central Nagaland Students’ Association stated in its condolence message to the bereaved family. 

Minister Kashiho: Describing late Sashi as “An accomplished police officer, a grassroots social worker, an upright and dedicated person,” Minister for Soil and Water Conservation, Geology and Mining, NSMDC V Kashiho Sangtam conveyed condolences to the bereaved family. He also expressed appreciation to the medical staff of Faith Hospital and Referral Hospital (CIHSR), Dimapur and the task forces for their humanitarian aid to the people during these challenging times. 

NSCN (IM): The Collective Leadership—Chairperson Q Tuccu, Vice-chairperson Tongmeth Wangnao and General Secretary Th Muivah of the NSCN (IM) also mourned the demise of late Sashi stating that the Nagas have lost a great public leader. “The Collective Leadership on behalf of the Naga nation expresses its deepest condolences to the bereaved family members and to his close friends and colleagues in ENPO and prays that the Almighty God provides solace to them,” it stated in a condolence message.

KGOU: The Konyak Gazetted Officers’ Union (KGOU), in its condolence message, stated that late Sashi was “a dynamic and upright leader who stood up fearlessly in good and bad times for his people.” Stating that he would be fondly remembered and missed, the union conveyed condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace. 

TNL: “At this time of sorrow and grief, the Tangkhul Naga Long stands in solidarity with the people of ENPO and expresses our heartfelt condolences. To the bereaved family, our deepest sympathy and prayers are with you,” a message from the Tangkhul Naga Long stated. 

Minister Neiba: In his message, Nagaland’s Planning & Co-Ordination, Land Revenue and Parliamentary Affairs minister Neiba Kronu described late Sashi as a humble and dedicated leader. In his demise, our state has lost a good leader who always worked for the upliftment of the society; Kronu stated and conveyed deepest condolence to the bereaved family.

Minister Temjen Imna: Nagaland’s Higher Education & Tribal Affairs Minister Temjen Imna Along stated that late Sashi was known to be an upright man whose leadership prowess was well known and revered deeply. “Selfless and undaunting are his efforts to bring peace and understanding wherever there is conflict - he is known as the 'People's Leader'. We have indeed lost a fine leader,” he added.

FNR: Stating that late Sashi was an inspiring and promising Naga leader, the Forum for Naga Reconciliation expressed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved members of his family and to the ENPO. “In Sashi’s home going Nagas have lost a leader. May he rest in Christ,” it added.
