It was a day of thanksgiving and gratitude as the Hope Channel celebrated its third Foundation Day at its office in Indisen, Dimapur on Monday.

Hope Channel is a unit of Ebenezer Welfare Society, a non-governmental organisation, that provides shelter, counselling and vocational training to destitute women and children, many of whom have come out of situations where they were facing abuse.

On the occasion, special guest, Chairperson of Little Star Higher Secondary School, Nini Sekhose noted that domestic violence is an issue that is widespread and visible even in schools. Very often, women or children facing violence are not taken seriously and even advised to ‘bear with it,’ and some even shift the blame on the victims, she maintained.

She also noted various dangerous human trafficking networks exist across the world and that those who take on the task of rescuing and rehabilitating persons who have been trafficked or abused should be commended for their bravery and service.

Along these lines, Sekhose emphasised the need for the society at large, to support organisations that are involved in the service of those in need. Lauding the Hope Channel team, she further encouraged them to continue their service. I hope the women you are reaching out to will get the help they need, she added.

Noting that Hope Channel is shouldering a huge responsibility on behalf of the society, Rev Dr Temjen Ozukum pronounced a special prayer for the team, and encouraged them to continue their work with faith in God.

Meanwhile, Director of Hope Channel, Tiakala Amri noted that it was a time for reflection on thankfulness - recognising the things, people and blessings that the team has witnessed over the last three years.

She maintained that the God had opened several doors for Hope Channel and blessed all the staff and members with good health throughout the years, adding, “We have a lot to give thanks about.”

The Director also informed that Hope Channel will soon be launching a new project called ‘Manna for the Soul,’ to help beggars in Dimapur and give them hope of living dignified lives. “Like our name suggests, we want to channelise hope to the hopeless,” she added.

The occasion was also marked with the cutting of cake by the special guest and Anenla, Tiakala’s mother.

Earlier, the programme was chaired by Aien Tsudir, EOH Director Akum Amri pronounced the invocation while Tsitsi performed a special number.
