Address ‘dire’ shortage of medical staff at DH Longleng within 15 days: PSC says

Longleng, September 20 (MExN): The Phom Students Conference (PSC) today stated that the shortage of medical staff at District Hospital Longleng (DHL) has become “dire” and urged the Government of Nagaland to address the issue within 15 days.

The PSC has visited DHL several times and interacted with the staff members, and has highlighted the grievances to the department on several occasions through the proper channel, informed a press release from the apex students' body of the Phom community.

However, there has been no positive outcome and no response, and this has hurt the sentiment of the PSC in particular and the community in general, it noted.

According to the PSC, a few doctors and staff are struggling to cope with the current situation and to care for patients.

Currently, there four lab technicians and only three doctors performing their duties, while others (medical officers) are on study leave, it said.

“The situation has become dire, and we require immediate action to address this issue,” it maintained.

The lack of sufficient doctors and staff has had a negative impact on the productivity and efficiency of the district hospital, which is ultimately affecting the patient and general public as a whole, the PSC highlighted.

The existing staff are trying their best to manage the situation, however, it is no longer sustainable, it added.

“Hence, the PSC requests the Government of Nagaland to give immediate attention to this matter and to take prompt action to address it within 15 days,”

Further stating that DHL is the only hospital in the district but suffering from acute lack of required shortages, the PSC requested the concerned health & family welfare minister to look into the matter seriously and to authorise the appointment and deployment of more staff at the earliest.
