Dimapur, August 18 (MExN): The Agro-based Rural Technology & Incubation Centre at Nagaland Tool Room & Training Centre was inaugurated by Kekhrievor Kevichusa, IPoS, Commissioner and Secretary, Industries & Commerce, Nagaland in the presence of K Hokishe Assumi, Director of Industries & Commerce, Nagaland and Tali Longchar, Director (I/C), MSME-DI, Dimapur on August 17.

Funded by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Government of India, the Agro-based Rural Technology & Incubation Centre began on February 7, 2019 and was completed within 18 months. 

The main objective of the scheme is to generate employment opportunities through setting up of new self-employment ventures by bringing together the widely dispersed traditional artisans and unemployed youth, a press release from the NTTC stated. It also aims to provide continuous and sustainable employment to traditional and prospective artisans as well as rural or urban unemployed youths in order to limit the migration of rural youths to urban areas. 

It said that the NTTC under this project has conducted various types of training programs on the agro-based rural technologies developed/manufactured at the centre. Some of the activities include sending trainers and artisans to Tamil Nadu for training on banana fiber extraction and handicraft as well as participation in various exhibitions/trade fairs where the products manufactured at NTTC were displayed and demonstrated.

Positive feedbacks from the participants were received and presently, the centre is getting various queries and demands for the purchase of the products, the release stated.

There are currently 22 agro based rural technologies developed/manufactured under this scheme, some of which include Smoke free Meat dryer, Banana Fibre Extractor (Electrical Version), Banana Fiber Extractor (Petrol Version), Vegetable Dryer (Solar), Pineapple Fiber Extractor (Type 1 & 2), Motorised Paddy Thrasher, Portable Rice Mill, and hand tools for hill farming such as seedling gun, Pole Puller & Fruit Plucking stick, to name a few.

NTTC Dimapur was set up by the Nagaland Industries & Commerce Department in collaboration with the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Government of India in the year 2006. It was set up with the objective to develop skilled manpower for employment and entrepreneurship, design and develop production tools and to support the small scale industries in the State.

NTTC is the only Tool Room in the northeast region that is imparting Diploma course in Tooling Engineering since 2007.

Accreditation like All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has been awarded since 2008. NTTC has been certified by ISO 9001:2015 and other Sector Skill Councils under National Skill Development Corporation to conduct Government of India’s flagship skill development programmes like PMKVY, DDU-GKY, etc.
