AIFUCTO to protest NEP 2020 in New Delhi today

Dimapur, August 2 (MExN): The All Nagaland Government College Teachers’ Association (ANGCTA) has informed that the All India Federation of University and College Teachers’ Organisation (AIFUCTO) will be organising a protest at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi, as a sign of resentment against the National Education Policy, 2020.

“Some of the main aspects of NEP 2020 that AIFUCTO rejects are:  Central University Entrance Test (CUET), Four Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP), Loans from Higher Education Financing Agency (HEFA) to run the higher educational institutions, fee hikes, scrapping of M Phil, seat cuts in PhD, Academic Bank Credit (ABC) & Study Webs of Active Learning for Young Aspiring Minds (SWAYAM) regulations, job loss for teachers, etc,” stated a press release from the ANGCTA on Tuesday.

According to the ANGCTA which is an affiliate unit of AIFUCTO, the latter has been playing an enormous role in building up the nation’s education, especially in higher education. It said that the AIFUCTO “vehemently rejects the NEP 2020 in its present form,” and as such, would be organising the protest to ‘save education for all.’

The release stated that the AIFUCTO also demands implementation of Right to Education from Early. Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) to Post Graduate level, public spending on education at a minimum of 10% GDP, regulation for absorption of ad-hoc and  temporary teachers, to fill vacancies of both teaching and non-teaching post on permanent basis, extension of RC/OC for CAS promotions, removal of Ph D as a mandatory condition for promotions, immediate implementation of 7th CPC scales in Punjab & Himachal Pradesh, grants of incentives for Ph D/M Phil and other higher qualifications, scrapping of NPS and restoration of old pension scheme for all.
