Announces CM’s Music & Arts Scholarships, Conservatory of Folk & Traditional Music

The State Government is aiming to make Nagaland a capital of the music and arts industry, promised Chief Minister, announcing a slew of initiatives for the sector.  

Among others, it included the Chief Minister’s Scholarship for Music & Arts from this year onwards. 

“This scholarship will ensure professional training with renowned institutions and conservatories who are knowledge partners of TaFMA to strengthen our music foundations especially amongst the educators,” Rio maintained presenting the State Budget 2021-22 in Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) on February 18.

He further informed that the Conservatory of Folk & Traditional Music, a new cell attached to the Regional Centre of Excellence for Music & Arts (RCEMPA) and will archive traditional tunes and folk songs.

“We need to preserve our rich culture and heritage and this is a step towards that direction in ensuring that future generations continue to be proud of our culture and heritage,” he noted. 

Meanwhile, Rio, who is the Minister in-charge of Finance allotted the Department of Art and Culture has been provided Rs168.50 lakh for promotion of cultural activities. 

He further underscored that field of music and arts, the state has made significant gains in the recent past and the Task Force for Music and Arts (TaFMA) carried out over two dozen virtual and digital programs and projects during the lockdown, setting high benchmarks in leading the digital movement.

These projects included collaborations with more than 10 countries in producing music and partnerships with schools, churches, orphanages and underprivileged children, he said. 

Capacity building exercises using professionals in the music and arts industry are continuously being carried out especially for the grassroots and stakeholders from all the districts, he added. 

We have signed MoUs of partnership and knowledge sharing with Latvia, KM Music Conservatory, Chennai, V-Rox Festival of Russia, Seven Seas Music, and Asia Music Connect, he further highlighted. 

Nagaland in partnership with Asia Music Connect and the Indian Centre for Cultural Relations (ICCR) under the Ministry of External Affairs, will be hosting the Asia Music Summit later this year, the CM informed. 

“Captains of the music industry and top performers from across international borders will be congregating at Nagaland,” he maintained.

Later this year, Nagaland will also host an international theatre residency in collaboration with the Italian Embassy Culture Centre which will bring artists and participants from around the world to Nagaland. 

“It is our aim to make Nagaland a capital of the music and arts industry,” the CM further stated.
