AK Mishra in Dimapur, to meet both groups

Dimapur | September 18

Retired Intelligence Bureau (IB) sleuth AK Mishra arrived in Nagaland on September 18 to meet the Naga Political Groups in talks with the Government of India (GoI). However, even as Mishra landed in Dimapur on Saturday, his role in the negotiations continued to remain a mystery with the GoI still to make a public announcement.

Mishra, who is a retired IB Special Director, declined to take questions from journalists adding to the ‘who-is-the-interlocutor’ mystery, before being whisked away by security personnel.

The arrival was in itself a hush-hush affair without the usual fanfare that used to greet former Governor RN Ravi at the airport when he would make trips to Nagaland as the Interlocutor.

Mishra’s arrival coincided with NSCN (IM) General Secretary, Th Muivah moving out from Hebron reportedly to meet Mishra somewhere in Dimapur. The meeting, though not officially admitted by both sides, is scheduled on September 20, as per reliable sources. After relations soured between former Nagaland Governor RN Ravi and the NSCN (IM) leadership, Mishra represented the GoI in the talks following the contested October 31, 2019 deadline.

He will also be meeting the Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs).

A senior NNPGs member told The Morung Express that they will meet but a date was still to be fixed. “Negotiations are over with all groups. It’ll be informal. We will hear from him,” he said.
